How do I move from a Spotify Family plan to my own account?
Quick answer
You don't need to move anything. Every Family member already has their own account, so you just leave the plan and subscribe on your own. Your playlists and Liked Songs stay with you.
Spotify says you keep all your playlists, saved music and settings whatever plan you change to or from. Members can't switch straight to another plan, though. You have to cancel first:
- Sign in to your account page at spotify.com and click Change plan.
- Under Available Plans, click Cancel plan, then Yes, cancel.
- Once you're on Spotify Free, buy Premium Individual ($12.99) or another plan.
That removes you from the family plan without closing your account. One catch: Spotify says plan members can only switch plans once every 12 months.
If you're the plan manager, you don't cancel. Go to Change plan, pick the smaller plan, and choose which members to keep. The rest drop to Free on the next billing date.
Teens on a managed account are different. When they're old enough, the app offers to graduate to a self-managed account, keeping playlists and saved music. At 18 it's required.
Want a fresh account instead? Then you'd need to copy your playlists over. See moving playlists to another account.
