Can I use Google Takeout to move YouTube Music playlists to Spotify?

Updated

Quick answer

No. Google Takeout's playlist transfer only sends YouTube Music playlists to Apple Music, and Spotify can't open the files a Takeout download gives you. Use Spotify's own import instead. It's free and connects to YouTube Music directly.

Google's playlist copy feature lists Apple Music as its only destination. It also skips Liked Music, playlists you saved from other people and anything you uploaded, so it wouldn't move everything even if Spotify were on the list.

A regular Takeout export is a zip of data files. Spotify has no way to import a file, so that download doesn't help either. Spotify's import feature runs on TuneMyMusic and signs in to YouTube Music for you:

  1. In the Spotify mobile app, open Your Library.
  2. Tap Import your music from other apps and choose YouTube Music.
  3. Sign in with Google and tap Allow.
  4. Pick your playlists, tap Transfer to Spotify, then sign in to Spotify to finish.

If your likes don't show up in the list, add those songs to a regular YouTube Music playlist first and import that. Covers, live sets and fan uploads often won't match, since they aren't in Spotify's catalog. Our YouTube Music to Spotify guide covers the browser options, like TuneMyMusic and Soundiiz, if the in-app import gives you trouble.
